Flip Flop FAQs

What is a flip flop?
A flip flop is a backless sandal type of shoe that is open-toed with a thong between the big toe and the second toe. Flip flops are typically considered casual footwear to be worn in warm weather.

What is the difference between flip flops sandals and slippers?
Flip flops are backless shoes that are held on your foot (loosely) by a v shaped thong between your first two toes. Sandals can be similar, they can be simple and flat, they can even be made of rubber – yet, sandals do not have the thong between your toes.

What are flip flops made of?
Flip flops were historically made of rubber – though modern flip flops are made from many types of material – rubber, wood, leather, fabric, silicon, foam, plastic, or suede.

How do you clean rubber flip flops?
Rinse with warm water to remove dirt, sweat and sand, then sprinkle and cover lightly with baking soda. Wait about 10 minutes and then use an old toothbrush to scrub the top, bottom, sides and thong. Rinse with warm water.

If your flip flops are extra dirty and/or extra smelly, mix up baking soda and salt and water to make a paste. Cover the flip flops with the mixture and leave on for 20 minutes. Use an old toothbrush to scrub, rinse with warm water, and let the flip flops air dry.
